Restoran Highway Cafe

I had heard of the name Highway Cafe for so many years, but I had no intention to visit the restaurant because of the name, Highway Cafe.

The name sounds so cacat to me, it sounds as if it is running by a few youngsters who haven't had their pubic fully grown. You know, those young people who just left their school and have nothing better to do, so their parents will lend (give) them a few thousands each to start off their so-called joint f&B business. But I was wrong.

One fine afternoon, one of my buddy, Edwin called me for lunch, he was suggesting potong steak at Highway Cafe. That's how we ended up in that restaurant that day, together with us was Ah Yi.

To my surprise, Highway Cafe doesn't look something like running by young people, but by some retired old men instead. When I stepped in it, I felt as if I had entered a time machine which had brought me back to 1970s or maybe earlier than that. Their signboard is such an old fashion, the decoration is something like a cowboy pub, the furniture are outdated, the ambience is something like my dad and mum's secret dating place, they play oldies and classical love songs; but everything turned out to be something nice and good for a fine dining. Not forgetting their staff is not young too, they are probably slightly younger than the staff in Coliseum Cafe in KL.

Edwin had a rib-eye steak, Yi ordered a sizzling lamb chop and I went for a sirloin steak. How does it taste? It is nice, so much better than expected. I visit to TGI Friday for their Jack Daniel's steak regularly as I love it so much, but I find the Highway's steak is much better than the one in Friday.

Two weeks later, which was yesterday, I took my wife to try out their steak. She ordered a medium well-done sirloin and a tomyam soup. Surprisingly her tongue loves highway too, she agreed that Highway's steak is much better than any steak house in the class that we have visited before. But if you would like to have something best of the best, perhaps you can go for wagyu beef at Jake's Charbroil Steaks in Bangsar.

I looked from other blogs or website about Highway Cafe, almost everyone says their nasi bonjari and escargot are nice. Besides that, they have curry laksa noodle, nasi lemak, shark's fin soup, burgers, curry fish-head, cantonese style noodle, supreme salmon, and many more. Hmm.... I am gonna try others next time. I feel damn hungry now,"Captain, can I have a sirloin steak, medium rare please?".

Chop 'n Steak @ Sri Serdang

Ewyong said:-
"Just to share a place that is quite near to Bayan Villa that we can have affordable Chicken Chop and Steak. The name of the shop is "Chop n Steak". Didn't manage to take photo when I went to this shop last week but tried to search online and found quite a number of postings about this place. It is situated just beside the round-about near the the UPM road and Fire Department."

JoyOFood - Chop 'n Steak (Serdang)
Thanks to someone, we finally found a Western food restaurant in nearby area which offers best value for money over the food provided. The Chop 'n Steak restaurant is a Malay restaurant, but selling western food (majority of the items from the menu). It is located somewhere near UPM in Sri Serdang.

The restaurant is pretty nicely decorated and the lightings of the restaurant somehow provide a jolly mood for dinner (The restaurant only opens for dinner). We have been there during weekdays and during weekends, the place is full of people! There are Malays, Chinese, Indians and even Iranians. However, luckily, we always got our seats.

When you order, you could see from the order that it is actually divided into a couple of sections. The restaurant is pretty organized that there are different people specializing in cooking different cuisines. Thus, the order could actually be separated between these "departments" and each "department" would prepare the food separately.

The Menu

The menu seems a little bit limited comparing to the Western food chains such as Chilli's or TGIF. However, having considered the size of the restaurant, I still think that it is highly acceptable, especially the price stated on the menu! You see, it's really hard to find a nice Fish 'n Chips with generous serving of Mayonnaise at only RM 6, plus an incredibly ice-blended fruit drink at only RM 2 (Some of the ice-blended drinks are at RM 2.50), the whole meal doesn't even exceed RM 10 for a decent Western meal! And yes, there is no "++" charges, you know what I meant, don't you? OMG! That's why I love you so, Chop 'n Steak!

Fish 'n Chips

Chicken Goldon Blue (Chicken Cordon Bleu)

Overall, this place is totally valued for money! If you opt for some average taste of Western food but having limited budget and living somewhere near Serdang, this would be the only place I would recommend for cheap Western cuisines. If you ask me to choose between F1 and Chop 'n Steak, I would not think twice and would head on to the latter.

No name mamak store

There's a no name mamak store that sell one of the most spicy nasi lemak at night and probably the only kaki ayam curry. Friends says the teh tarik is good also... great tea aroma...and not too sweet. I'm not a fan of Teh Tarik so can't judge myself.

Other interesting food on the menu is roti "jingling" - choice of daging or chicken. Without meat it's Roti salad.

Don't order fried maggi there unless you like black charcoal ed maggi.

It only opens only at night the curry doesn't arrive until 10pm and chicken feet curry would probably finish by 12am.

oh.. if you go after 1030pm... it takes forever for the drinks to arrive (because of crowds)... so be warned that you might want to patiently wait for your drinks to arrive before you dig into that tempting nasi lemak bungkus which is the only thing that available until the curry arrives. Unless of course if you love spicyness torture go ahead and have it without drinks on standby.

It used to be stationed at the Continental tyre shop. Now it's at the same corner shop that sell chicken rice during the day time.

The daytime Chicken rice is recommended as well.

Cheers!!

Restoran Chan Yew Kee

Purchaser Au and I had dinner in last Friday. Together with us were my wife and Au's girlfriend.

I suggested Restoran Chan Yew Kee, a restaurant I visit to usually. Coincidentally we bumped into Mr. David and the salespersons from Bukit Ikhlas Development at the restaurant.

We ordered a pissing-prawn fried with salted-egg (咸蛋赖尿虾) - one of my favourite, a vegetable (I have problem to remember all the veges' name), and a tomatoed-pork (ku-lou-yuk or 古佬肉). I do not have the address with me now, but you can search for its GPS location at 3.0150 ,101.7006.

I got some photos from other blogs, enjoy viewing:-
